come on! this is my worst nightmare: aliens are coming to the Earth and we have no idea what to do and how to fight them
so.. nasa should stop bothering smth they cannot predict

I didn't think they'd say the aliens are coming. I'd hoped they'd say they've found signs of life. i hope for a generation to grow up knowing we are not alone.

Armiria, well... they're not coming YET! I mean if we continue to search, someday we will find smth. And maybe that smth will not be really friendly for us!

In case you don't:

You watch too much hollywood, honestly.
Most likely, the life we'd find would be bacteria or really simple anaerobic organisms.
And, even if by some miracle, we do encounter signs of a civilisation, first of all there are all the evidence to suggest that we might be the most advance one yet in the galaxy. That was suggested as the main reason we haven't encountered others yet.
Secondly, the civilisations we might one day encounter are very likely to be vastly different that we are. Starting with the fact that silicone-based life forms are more likely to occur than the protein ones.
And finally, being different, they might not even have concepts of violence, concur or death. We simply don't know.


And if you want to know why I think it would be - and it would - the greatest discovery of our generation, that is because we are stuck in the medieval belief that we are unique and everything revolves around us.
Meanwhile, there are other solar systems out there, with other potentially habitable planets, millions of them in our galaxy alone. There's a system around nearly every star.
We think that life is unique to Earth, when it's probably not even rare.
When we do get the evidence of life elsewhere in space it will put our own existence in a different perspective.

To summarise, the Universe is beautiful and complex, and I think now is exactly the time to adopt the concept of humanity as a race.

You have a very good point here. Especially about silicon-based life form. But why you think they cannot be dangerous?

That was suggested as the main reason we haven't encountered others yet.

Did you ever think that we're so simple and stupid that no one in whole universe wants to contact us? Even with purpose to conquer us.
